Lesley Teare Cross Stitch Design

Signs of Spring

18th Jan 2013

It might be cold and dark outside, but enjoy the promise of sunshine to come with my spring flower display. This design is to be found in the latest issue of Cross Stitch Collection – out today. The small stitched sections will give you an idea of the colour shading; the blend of different yellows makes the petals glow with warmth.

Some of you may be interested in seeing how I work on an idea for a chart. My first step is to draw and paint the picture. This painting wouldn’t be good enough to sell in a gallery, but as the basis for my design it is perfect and all I need to chart from. I choose the shades of stranded cottons to match the colours on the painting and then bring the painting up on to my software. It is only then a matter of 'painting by numbers.' Each square on the chart represents a cross stitch and slowly I build up the sections with colour until the design is completed.
