Lesley Teare Cross Stitch Design

Herbal Essence

2nd Jun 2014

Hi everyone, as well as the previous design of the Michaelmas daisies I have a couple more in Cross Stitcher, issue 280. As many of you will know, this is quite a fun magazine with catchy, simple designs that are often colourful and cheery. I love working for it as it gives me the chance to try a different look at the design process.  The shapes and blocks of colours become the most important part of the design.

Here the poster and plant pot bands echo the retro designs of the 50's which is SO popular now. I love the oranges, lime greens and blues with black, and this simple style is almost graphic in conception with the addition of the 'drawn' herbs. Stitched here on 14 count rustic aida that shows the style and colours to perfection --- and--- green fingers not required.

Also in this edition is a simple summery vintage style cuff.

I'm sure older children would be able to do this... with a bit of help. Ideal for that long summer holiday? Simple instructions on how to make  the cuff are included, as well as a visual demonstration on how to blanket stitch.

Do, however take a peak at the front cover design by Jane Prutton... yummy is my word for it!
